First, have a read of the sentences below. Can you work out why the hyphens have been used?
Submerge the body in natron (salt) and leave for 40 days- you could use this time to practise your make-up skills!
Fact: natron was used to remove the remaining moisture from the body, which would prevent the mummy from rotting.
Remove the body from the natron- you could leave the natron in the sun until it dries out, making it suitable for your next mummification, if your next mummy doesn’t mind sharing bodily fluids that is!
Stuff the body with straw, dried grass and scraps of linen- these do not have to be clean, your mummy won’t mind!
Have a go at writing your own version of these sentences- remember, whatever you come up with now will help you on Thursday when you come to writing your instructions!
Now, have a look through the PowerPoint linked below; it will tell you all about the different typed of sentences- this should just be a recap so shouldn't take too long!
Now you know how to divide by 10 and 100, we are going to use this knowledge and apply it to finding percentages!
Did you know, an easy way to find 10% of a given amount is to just divide the amount by 10?!
So, if I wanted to find 10% of 40, all I would need to do is 40 ÷ 10 which would give me 4!
10% of 50 = 50 ÷ 10 = 5
10% of 34 = 34 ÷ 10 = 3.4
Now, we can use this knowledge to find 20%. All we would need to do is find 10% and then multiply this by 2!
So, if I wanted to find 20% of 40 I would first find 10% by dividing by 10 (4) and then multiply my answer by 2 which would give me 8!
20% of 50 = 50 ÷ 10 = 5 5 x 2 = 10
20% of 34 = 34 ÷ 10 = 3.4 3.4 x 2 = 6.8
How do you think we would find 30% and 40%?
We can also work backwards to find 5%. All you would need to do is find 10% and then divide by 2!
Can you think of a quick way to find 50%?
Have a go at the worksheet linked below- there are three different levels so pick the one you feel most comfortable with!
We will be carrying on with our stocking this afternoon (don't worry we will get you started once you return to school!). In the meantime, make sure you have your design sorted. If you have a needle and thread at home, practise threading the needle and securing the end!
We will also be starting to look at out Christmas video this week so, try and learn the words for Nativity- Sparkle and Shine!
