Grove Park Primary School

Welcome to year 2!

Myself, Mrs Rose, Miss Durling and Mr Ebelthite have loved being back at school and have enjoyed getting to know your children. It was also lovely to speak to most of you during our parent consultations and share this with you.

Now that we have all settled a little more into school life, I wanted to update our class page with a few reminders and an overview of what we have been learning during our term so far.

This term we have been focusing on well-being in our classroom. As the term has progressed, we have gradually introduced more focused learning to prepare for a more structured timetable after the October half term.

In literacy, we have now read ‘The Chickens Build a Wall’ and ‘Katie Morag and the Two Grandmothers’. The children have successfully rewritten both of these stories and we are very proud of the progress they have made in such a short space of time!

In numeracy, we have reintroduced the use of number lines to solve addition problems. The children have greatly enjoyed working with numbers and always seem to be looking for a challenge.

General reminders

For those of you that don’t already have it, my email address is However, please be mindful that juggling teaching full time and responding to parent emails is a new challenge for all teachers this year. With that being said, if you have any queries or concerns please don’t hesitate to contact me and I will endeavour to get back to you as soon as I can.

Drinks money

Thank you so much to all of you that have already handed drinks money in. If you do not wish for your child to have a cup of squash, please be aware that this money is also used for other treats as well.

For the next two terms, PE will be on a Tuesday afternoon. Please ensure your child has a full PE kit including outdoor attire as the weather is now starting to get chilly. Inside your child’s PE kit should be:

T-shirt (Your child’s house colour)

Jogging bottoms

Spare socks

Thank you

Miss Hyams

Term 2

We hope you all had a lovely half term and are ready for the next (busy!) term ahead!

Firstly, we would like to make you aware of a few important dates this term.

Friday 13th November – Children in Need

Children need to wear yellow, something spotty or Pudsey related! This will be instead of their school uniform and we will welcome a £1 donation for this cause.

Friday 20th November – Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole day

Children in year 2 will need to come to school dressed as a nurse or a soldier. They will then spend the day learning about these two significant figures.

Monday 30th November – St Andrews Day

Children will need to come to school dressed in blue or white. We will be celebrating St Andrews Day in the afternoon.

Now that we have fully transitioned back into school life, we will now be returning to teaching a full curriculum again but wellbeing will still be our priority. We will also start to send home reading books and homelearning on a regular basis but it may look a little different to before.

In addition to this, we will be sending reading books and homelearning home on a Friday, every other week, in a zip wallet. These will be sent and returned on alternate weeks to allow for books to be quarantined and sent home the following week. Homelearning will remain at school in your child’s folder.

PE will remain on a Tuesday this term. PLEASE ensure your child has a full PE kit that includes outdoor attired and trainers. We will be doing PE outside in all weathers so children need to be appropriately dressed. You may find that your child’s PE kit will be sent home more frequently, particularly if the weather is wet and/or muddy.
