Welcome to our home learning page.
As we are trying to minimise the amount of paper and books moving between home and school this year due to Covid19, we are setting home learning online. Please let us know if this is a problem as we are able to send paper copies home in some circumstances, but most of you have indicated that your child has access to a computer, laptop or tablet.
Usually we would send book bags home and children are expected to read at least 4 times a week. I would like you to do this online using 'bug club' instead. I have reset every child's books so there should always be 5 available at any one time. Your child is expected to answer the bug questions carefully as this checks their understanding of what they have read and I will be looking at their scores online. If your child wants to read a book of their own some nights, that is always encouraged too.
The website for bug club is activelearnprimary.co.uk
I will ensure you have your child's login.
I will set maths tasks on educationcity.com (login to follow) when there is something they need to practise and I will also expect them to be learning their times tables and related division facts. These challenges can be found at the bottom of the class page for you to print off. Once your child can complete the sheet in under a minute, I will assess them as knowing their times tables. I will give them a sheet in a different order, so make sure they know the answers, not that they are remembering the order in which to write them!
High frequency words (HFW) are also important and the sheets attached at the bottom of the class page can be used to practise reading and spelling them and also putting them into sentences.
Finally, each term there will be a project to complete that compliments our learning in class. This term, it is a project all about volcanoes. The sheet attached at the bottom has some pointers and ideas.
Have fun with your child whilst you complete these tasks. They are important and help support your child in class but should not be a chore! Play games with the HFW, make up silly sentences, complete the reading bingo board on our class page or have make up word problems with the times tables facts. Remember, volcanoes erupt too so there's plenty of messy fun to be had there!
