I am so impressed with how well you have all settled back into school and it has been lovely getting to know you over the past few weeks! I am sure you will all have a fantastic time in year 6 and I look forward to spending the rest of the year with you!
If ever you need to contact me, please feel free to email me at email@example.com. I will always try to reply as soon as possible.
We have lots of exciting topics planned for this term although our main focus will be to support you in settling back into the school routine and focussing on mental wellbeing especially with everything going on in the world at the moment!
We will be looking at two different texts in our literacy lessons this term these are:
- Biomes: Writing a newspaper article
-'How to Fly with Broken Wings' by Jane Elson: Narrative writing
As well as this, we will be completing some assessment tasks so that we can make sure the groups passed on from your previous year group are accurate as we know you have been working extremely hard at home during lockdown so are expecting things to have changed a little!
We will be focussing on our methods for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division this term. Please make sure you are continuing to practise your times tables at home as these will help with everything!!
Once again, we will be completing some assessment tasks this term to make sure your class groupings are correct.
We will be conducting an experiment into how plants adapt to their environment. For this, we will be planting runner beans and sunflowers and placing these in different locations around the classroom to see whether they grow differently!
We will also need some information from one of your parents! Please can you ask them their age and height. This will help us to look at the relationship between how our height changes as we get older.
A little bit of a recap in geography this term! We will be going over our world map and locating different features such as: continents, oceans, countries, capital cities, rivers and mountains.
In history, you will all get to choose an influential person to research. You will look at the impact their actions have had on people's lives and what made them important.
Please don't forget to bring in your PE kit! Due to Covid-19 restrictions, we will have to use the field so make sure you have a warm tracksuit and some trainers in a carrier bag: you will get muddy!!
We will be playing a variety of team games where you will work on strategy and team building.
Unfortunately, we have limited time in the ICT suite this term due to Covid-19 restrictions however, we will be able to use the iPads to develop our research skills.
As mentioned, we will be focussing on our wellbeing and settling back into school throughout the term; this will take priority! As well as this, we will look at relationships but more specifically what makes a relationship happy and healthy.
This term, we will be talking about rules and what makes them important.
